2012 Merit
September 14, 2011 – Hoffman SummerWood Community observed National Assisted Living Week in a big way. This year's theme of "Forever Proud," was poignant as the week began on September 11th. According to the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) the "Forever Proud" theme was meant to "address the pride one has in work well done, family, friends, community and especially the pride we feel as American citizens." Steve Poem May 10, 2011 - A group of Hoffman SummerWood Community residents recently impressed their neighbors and staff with a formal reading of their original poems. Local renowned poet, Andy Weil, guided this group of first time poets into identifying and expressing their inner feelings.  This talented group of writers has been meeting weekly just shy of a year. May 5, 2011 - SummerWood is holding its fifth month-long May-a-thon challenge. Their goal is to “travel” from West Hartford, CT to Cando, ND, which is a mere 1,678 miles!  Regardless of age and physical ability, this year, SummerWood residents, family members, staff and friends are walking, biking, and exercising the entire month of May.  Read Press Release.

February 22, 2011 – Jay Kaplan, Director of Roaring Brook Nature Center in Canton, CT, visited Hoffman SummerWood Community recently with several of his favorite reptiles. SummerWood residents were fascinated as they separated fact from fiction and appreciated the world of snakes. Several of the residents actually enjoyed handling the cold creatures.   Pictured in photo is SummerWood resident Terry Marcus with Jay Kaplan, Director of Roaring Brook Nature Center.

Blumenthal visited Hoffman SummerWood Community to address many seniors and the issues most concerning to them.
